  • India have won 2 matches on the trot in the Asia Cup

India women registered their second successive victory at the Asia Cup after beating Malaysia by 30 runs (via DLS) in a rain-affected match in Sylhet on Monday, October 3. India posted 181 on the board after which Malaysia were reeling at 16 for 2 in the 6th over when rain interrupted play.

No more play was possible on Monday and India were declared winners as Malaysia also completed the minimum quota of 5 overs with the bat, required to produce a result in rain-truncated matches.

For India, it was Sabbhineni Meghana who shone as the opener hit her maiden T20I fifty. Meghana smashed 1 six and 11 boundaries for her 53-ball 69 in a 116-run opening partnership with Shafali Verma, who looked a little scratchy against the Malaysian attack.

Meghana showcased her class at the top, replacing vice-captain Smriti Mandhana who was rested for India’s second game in the Women’s Asia Cup campaign.

Richa Ghosh was in imperious form as she hit a six and 5 boundaries for her 19-ball 33. While Kiran Navgire fell for a golden duck, Radha Yadav and Dylan Hemalatha chipped in with handy cameos as India posted 181 for 4 in 20 overs.

It was trial by spin for the Malaysian batters as Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up a wicket each, not allowing Malsysia to get any kind of momentum into their chase.

Mas Elysa (14) and Elsa Hunter (1) were unbeaten when the heavens opened up.

Notably, India rode on a Jemimah Rodrigues special in their first match against Sri Lanka. India posted 150 on the board and sealed a 41-run win in their opener.

India will next face the UAE on Tuesday, October 4.

Brief Score: India 181 for 4 in 20 overs (Meghana 69, Shafali 46), beat Malaysia 16 for 2 in 5.2 overs by 30 runs DLS.
