Jaisalmer: The Barmer unit of ACB on Sunday arrested an executive engineer of PHED’s Balotra section while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
B L Soni, the DGP of ACB, said that a complaint was received about the accused, Jaiprakash Gupta, demanding a bribe of Rs 3 lakh to clear the pending bills for work done under the Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana.
“The complainant had informed the Barmer unit of ACB that Gupta was demanding 2.5% (Rs 3 lakh) of the bill amount in order to clear the outstanding bills. The complainant said he had already paid Gupta Rs 2 lakh as bribe and that the engineer was harassing him for the rest of the bribe amount,” said Soni. ACB’s Barmer unit additional SP Ramnivas Sunda verified the complaint under the supervision of Jodhpur ACB DIG Kailash Chandra Bishnoi. Since the PHED office was closed on Sunday, Gupta had asked the complainant to come to his residence at Agarwal Colony in Balotra with the remaining bribe amount of Rs 1,00,000 in the afternoon. tnn
